Connecting Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to Mentionpath brings your website traffic data into the Traffic dashboard. You can track visitors, sessions, page views, and engagement metrics for your domain — and use the AI traffic filter to see exactly how many visitors are arriving from AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and others.

What data you get

Once GA4 is connected and a property is selected, the Traffic dashboard shows: KPI summary cards
  • Visitors — total users in the selected period, with period-over-period change
  • New Visitors — users visiting for the first time
  • Sessions — total sessions started
  • Page Views — total pages viewed across all sessions
  • Avg Duration — average session duration in minutes and seconds
Charts and breakdowns
  • Visitors Over Time — a daily line chart breaking down visitors by traffic channel (Direct, Organic, Paid, AI Referrers, Other)
  • Channel Breakdown — share of total visitors by traffic channel
  • Countries — visitors by country, sortable by percentage of total
  • Devices — share of visitors by device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • By Day — a daily table of sessions and page views, sortable by date or volume
  • Page Traffic — top landing pages with sessions, page views, avg duration, and the AI referrer sources driving traffic to each page

Connecting GA4

1

Open Account Settings

Click your account menu and select Settings, then navigate to the Integrations tab.
2

Connect Google Analytics

Find the Google Analytics 4 card and click Connect. Mentionpath will redirect you to Google’s OAuth consent screen.
3

Authorize access

Sign in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 properties, and grant Mentionpath the requested permissions. You’ll be redirected back to Mentionpath automatically.
4

Select a property

After the connection is confirmed, Mentionpath opens the integration detail so you can choose which GA4 property to enable. Enable the property (or properties) you want to use. Each enabled property becomes available in the Traffic dashboard property selector.
You can connect multiple GA4 properties to the same domain. Use the property selector in the Traffic dashboard filter bar to switch between them.

Selecting a property in the Traffic dashboard

Once GA4 is connected and at least one property is enabled, open the Traffic dashboard. In the filter bar:
  1. Select Google Analytics from the connector dropdown.
  2. Choose your GA4 property from the property dropdown next to it.
The dashboard loads data for the selected property and date range. If you have multiple properties enabled, you can switch between them without leaving the dashboard. If no property appears in the dropdown, select Add property to return to Account Settings and enable one.

Using the AI traffic filter

The AI traffic filter is only available when the Google Analytics connector is active. It lets you focus exclusively on visitors who arrived from AI platforms. To enable it, click the AI Traffic toggle in the filter bar. The dashboard switches to show:
  • AI Source Visitors — a time-series chart showing daily visitors from each AI platform, with per-provider lines
  • Top AI Source Visitors — a breakdown of visitor share by AI platform (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and others)
The KPI summary cards at the top update to reflect AI-only traffic when this filter is active. Switch back to All Traffic to return to the full-channel view.
Compare All Traffic and AI Traffic side by side over the same date range to understand what share of your overall traffic is being driven by AI platforms.

Troubleshooting

No data appears after connecting Property discovery and the initial data sync can take a few minutes. If the dashboard remains empty after five minutes, check that you enabled at least one property in Account Settings > Integrations. The integration shows “Expired” or “Error” Your Google OAuth token has expired or been revoked. Open the integration detail in Account Settings > Integrations and click the re-authenticate option to go through the OAuth flow again. Mentionpath will resume syncing once the connection is restored. I connected the wrong Google account Disconnect the current GA4 integration from Account Settings > Integrations and reconnect using the correct Google account. A property I expect to see isn’t listed The Google account used to connect must have at least Viewer access to the GA4 property. If the property is missing, verify that the connected account has the right permissions in Google Analytics.
Disconnecting a GA4 integration stops data from syncing. Historical data already imported into Mentionpath is retained unless you choose to purge it when disconnecting.
